Knocknaheeney Learning Neighbourhood

In early 2022, the Knocknaheeney Learning Neighbourhood committee, in partnership with Adult Continuing Education, University College Cork and Cork City Partnership commenced delivery of the Diploma in Youth and Community Work programme in Knocknaheeney. This programme is a two year, part-time level 7 programme that is delivered one morning per week in a venue in the Knocknaheeney area. The aim of this programme is to provide local people with the opportunity to participate in a third level programme in a non-threatening and easily accessible local venue. The twenty seven participants that are enrolled in this programme will be given the opportunity to gain professional skills and knowledge that guides good practice in the outh and community work sector.

Knocknaheeney Learning Neighbourhood was one of the first two Learning Neighbourhoods in Cork. The Neighbourhood secured funding to run a STEAM Education programme in Knocknaheenyin the 2016 school year. STEAM Education was formed by a group of individuals from backgrounds in industry, academia and youth education. It aims to
address the serious gaps which exist in the education system and the widening shortfall of highly qualified science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM)graduates.
This is an exciting initiative to support the education of young people in Knocknaheeny and create closer collaboration between schools and UCC, which
is one of the key aims of Knocknaheeny Learning Neighbourhoods.
