South Parish Learning Neighbourhood
The South Parish Learning Neighbourhood launched their 'Faces of Learning' exhibition during the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival. The event took place in April in Nano Nagle Plaza, Douglas St. Cork. The Exhibition features an inclusive mix of people who have embraced the idea of lifelong Learning and have participated in courses and learning events locally. Images of the Lantern Community Projects 'Crochet Group' are just some of the portraits on display in Nano Nagle Place. During this event, the South Parish Learning Neighbourhoods also launched their Learning Neighbourhood video which showcases the diversity of learning taking place in various local organisations, schools and businesses.
This year the South Parish Learning Neighbourhood also partnered with Cork College of FET - Douglas St. Campus (St. John's Central College) and a delegation of staff and students from Noorderpoort School, Groningen, The Netherlands to organise an event. For the event, the Dutch students organised a demonstration of traditional Dutch games and invited students and staff of St. Johns College to participate in these games. This cultural exchange allow both parties to exchange and learn together.
In April, South Parish Learning Neighbourhoods committee also hosted a South Parish 'Sustainable Practices' trail. This guided walking tour invited participants to visit a variety of local organisations to learn about the sustainable practices that are taking place on a local level. This tour has been developed to highlight initiatives to highlight the significance of the UN Sustainable Development Goals on a local level.
